Learning to Speak Life: Fruit of the Spirit by Michael and Carlie Kercheval is a wonderful new Kindle book for family Bible time.
At the beginning of the book, you will find an Introduction and a How To Use This Book. Take your time to read through this for ideas to get the most out of this study. There are nine chapters–each covering a characteristic of the fruit of the Spirit: Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self-Control. The study is meant to last nine weeks by doing a chapter per week.
Each chapter contains 11 sections: Scripture (good for memory work), What Is…? (explains the characteristic you are learning about), Confessions (pertaining to that particular fruit and to be spoken out loud each day), Copywork (for older kids as well as a simplified format for younger ones), Role Play (a quick skit idea to demonstrate the fruit characteristic), Silly Sayings (spiritual tongue twisters), Short Story super short story (to again demonstrate that characteristic being studied), Family Discussion Time (a list of questions to foster discussions), Family Project (service opportunities), Prayer, and Digging Deeper (more scriptures to study).
A couple of sections are good to work on a little each day such as memorizing scriptures, doing the copywork, etc. Others would fall on individual days as you see fit. However, you need to do both the skit and the story before the discussion questions.
We already have family Bible time most evenings, and this will be a wonderful addition. I can’t wait to dive into this with my family. Plus, Michael and Carlie are planning more projects for this series. The next one up? Get Control of Your Mouth–a book for tweens. Oh yes.
